The Dog Days of Summer...
Ugh, will this heat wave ever end! They are predicting that this Friday we will break the 1980 record for most days over 100 in a row. Our summer has been moving along, we've been trying to keep busy...Rockport for July 4th, William has been to two bible camps and a gymnastics camp, my mom came to visit, we went to Houston, swimming, we've hit a bunch of indoor play areas, swim lessons, meeting friends at Lifetime, William had a stomach bug, Logan got an ear infection, etc. I'm counting down to August 29th when BOTH boys will start pre-school!! I don't know what I will do with myself, it's been almost 2 years since I've had any considerable time by myself. Happy, happy, joy, joy!!

Happy 18 Months Logan!
Our little Logan baby is growing up, he turned 18 months old on Tuesday. As I've said before, he's into everything! There is nothing he won't try to climb and loves copying everything William does, which can get dangerous. He's currently sporting a busted lip and bruised big toe. His favorite past times include...dancing, snacks, playing with big brother, running, climbing, swimming, playing outside, throwing and kicking balls, and just being a wild toddler.
We went to the Doctor today for Logan's 18 month check-up. At Logan's 15 month appointment I promised myself I would not worry about his weight (or lack there of) anymore. Well, he came in at a whopping 8th percentile and my heart sank. I know I can't control how skinny he is, but as a mother you want your child to hit all the marks. Our poor Pediatrician did the same song and dance for me as every appointment..."he's healthy, he's just a thin guy, don't worry about it." He did come in at 47th percentile for height, so that made me feel better...he is growing. He also hit all of his milestones and got a clean bill of health. Such a blessing!!
I know this sounds cheesy, but when Jonathan had his accident I remember feeling so blessed and thankful that we would be able to have more children together. I know God spared Jonathan's life and legs for a reason. It warms my heart to think that Logan is one of those reasons and the special plan he has for him. I think God knew William needed a little brother! ;)

What a difference a year makes...

Great Wolf Lodge
Saturday morning we got up early (our day usually starts at 6:30, so that wasn't a stretch) and headed to the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine. The Milam crew (Cory, Karri, Maggie, Annie, Gage, Honey (Cory's mom) and G (Cory's step-dad)) let us crash their family vacation. They were so sweet to share their extra passes with us, so we all got in for free!
If you are not familiar with Great Wolf Lodge, it's a huge indoor water park and themed resort. This was William's first experience at a real water park and he loved it! There was one pretty big water slide he did about 20 times with Jonathan. Logan also had a great time, they had plenty of areas for little guys to play and toddle around. It was a really fun day!

Seeing Double
My cousin, Elizabeth, got married this past weekend in Dallas. It was a great wedding and a good reason to get a babysitter for Friday AND Saturday night! We also had a lot of family in town, including my grandmother's (Mimi-my mom's mom) twin sister. We call her Mimi Margo and she lives in Michigan where my grandmother is from. We haven't seen Mimi Margo in about 6 years so it's always fun to see the two of them together. They use to look more alike, but Mimi hurt her back a few years ago and has gotten a little frail. I remember as a child being very confused by the two Mimi's and never being able to tell which one was my grandmother.
Sunday afternoon Mimi, Mimi Margo, my Mom and Tom came over to see the boys. William just stared at the two Mimi's, not knowing which one was which. We asked him to pick which one he thought was Mimi, but he wouldn't do it...smart guy. It was cute to see how excited Mimi was to show her sister her two great-grandsons.

Busted Teeth and Heat Relief
The day we got back from Rockport William was climbing on some Ikea furniture in the playroom when he lost his balance and fell, hitting his face on the edge of the furniture. I was talking to Angie on the phone and our conversation went something like this..."William just fell and hit himself, hold on a sec. Oh wait, there's a lot of blood. Let me call you back!" I usually gage accidents based on blood. If I don't see blood I know they are probably o.k. If I do see blood I start to worry. He was bleeding pretty bad from his lip and front tooth. I got everything under control and consulted with Jonathan when he got home. We decided to just wait and see how he looked the next morning.
Well, the next morning his lip was about 4 times it's normal size, his gums were still bleeding a little and his tooth was loose. I called the dentist and told the hygienist what happened. She pulled his chart and asked me if it was the front tooth that was already dead. I said, no...it was the good tooth. She just laughed and said it probably wasn't good anymore (not really that funny). She also said to keep an eye on it for a week and that the gums would probably tighten the tooth back up. She reassured me that all they can do for little kids is pull the tooth. She said to try to keep ice on his lip and give him Tylenol for the pain.
Trying to get William to put ice on his lip proved to be impossible so I decided to go with popsicles. The highs this week have been in the upper 90's...what happened to our nice spring weather? So we have been enjoying popsicles in the afternoon the past few days to help with William's lip and to beat the heat.
William's mouth is starting to look better now, praise the Lord. He looked pretty scary at first with his mouth all messed up...poor guy!

Side Note: That dead patch of grass William is standing on is where he hits his golf balls. My dad gave him real metal golf clubs for Christmas and he loves them. I finally gave up and just let the grass die.

Don't turn your back on a toddler...
I started giving Logan a spoon because he likes to feed himself (wants to be like big brother). He has become really proficient at holding his yogurt with one hand and using a spoon with the other. I guess he didn't want yogurt the other day because I left the kitchen for a minute and came back to this.....

I always wonder what goes through their little heads. He thought, "I don't want to eat this yogurt so what do I do with it? I know, I'll just rub it all in my hair. Yes, that's a great idea!"

Memorial Day Trip
I loaded the kiddos in the car and made the 7 hour drive down to Rockport for Memorial Day. Jonathan had to work so he flew in and out of Corpus. Although, I'm not sure he really missed spending 14 hours in the car with a toddler and preschooler. All things considered, the kids did really good on the trip....the DVD player and endless snacks helped. ;)
We had a lot of fun in Rockport! William LOVED it, he said he wanted to stay there forever. Logan had a good time too, he was just into everything. We did the usual....tried to fly a kite, went to the beach, went swimming in the pool, fished, tried to crab, walked on the long pier in Fulton, went to see the Big Tree, went on a boat ride, watched kite surfers, bought a souvenir shell at Treasure Island and checked out the shrimping boats. I asked William what his favorite part of the trip was and he insisted that he could not pick just one thing.
We found out that Logan was not a fan of the pool, I think it was a little cold for him. He also HATED the beach. He kept walking off towards the car saying, "Go, Go, Go." I'm not a big beach person either, so Logan and I left William and Jonathan at the beach while we went back to the condo to cool off.
My favorite line of the trip came one day when William just wouldn't nap. I was worried he would wake everyone up so I loaded him in the car and we went to a couple of stores. As we were driving I said, "William aren't you really tired?" His response, "No mommy, my body wants to fish!"
