Behind on Blogging

We have been busy getting ready for Christmas and the fast approaching arrival of baby Logan. I am trying to get everything ready for Logan by this weekend, so I can relax and enjoy Christmas. I have been neglecting the blog, so here are a few quick updates...

The first weekend in December we went back to Houston for the last time this year. We plan on staying in Waco for the rest of December since I am so very pregnant now.

Saturday we had our annual lunch with my grandmother, Nannie, at Champions Golf Club. The kids had a great time looking at all of the amazing decorations! We also had a wonderful lunch. Then, Nannie let Jonathan and Clay pick out their Christmas presents in the club pro shop. It was a great way to kick off the holidays!

On Sunday, we met Jonathan's two sisters and nephews for "Breakfast with Santa" at the downtown aquarium. They have a breakfast buffet and Santa gets into the aquarium with the fish. William was a little scared of Santa at first, but then Santa gave him a stuffed animal and he warmed right up to him. Evidently William is easily bought! :) After we ate breakfast, we went to see the white tiger. William loved every minute of it and talked about the tiger for days and days afterwards.

We spent last weekend hanging out in Waco and working on Logan's room. It felt good to be at home for once. It feels like we have been on the road to Houston every weekend. This next weekend we have Jonathan's family coming up to celebrate Christmas and then the next weekend after that we have my family coming and then the following Monday is when we have Logan!

Surgery Free for One Year!

It has been one year since Jonathan's last surgery! That surgery ended up being a lot more painful and involved than we thought it would be. Most people didn't know this, but his legs were bandaged, swollen and weak for all of the month of December last year. Jonathan was very good at putting up a good front. He had a total of four screws removed in both legs. One of the screws broke in half during the surgery and they had to dig into the bone to get it out. Jonathan had a total of 4 surgeries in 2008. What a difference a year makes! I just wanted to take a moment to thank God for blessing our family in extraordinary ways.

Tentative Logan Birth Date

I went to the doctor today for my 36 week check up. She decided to go ahead and schedule my induction for December 28th. Poor little guy, he will have a birthday so close to Christmas. It's all tentative and depends of course on how I am doing and the baby. It seems a little early to me, but we will just have to see how things go the next couple of weeks. It definitely lit a fire under me though. I still have a lot of things to do before Logan gets here. It looks like Jonathan might get his Christmas wish after all....a baby born before the end of 2009 means we can claim Logan on our 2009 taxes. It's funny how you can be pregnant for 9 months and still be kind of shocked that you're actually having a baby!

Christmas Confusion

William is a little confused about reindeer. He thinks they are cows and if you ask him what a reindeer says, he answers with "Moo." I'm not real sure what a reindeer says, so it's a little hard to correct him.

The other day we were in the car and I asked him what Santa says. William looked puzzled and said, "Oink, oink?" We have been working on saying, "Ho, Ho, Ho" and now he finally has it down.

I have also tried to explain the Christmas story to him a couple of times, but he doesn't seem to get it. He has a little nativity that I thought he might play with, but I caught him putting baby Jesus in his mouth and the rest of the figures were thrown around the play room. I had to confiscate the nativity and put it away until next year.

Ornaments are another source of confusion. William was under the impression that they were shiny balls. He threw one which was plastic and bounced on the floor. We reprimanded him and told him no touching the tree. Then I heard a loud crash and he had taken a glass ornament and thrown it on the tile floor in the kitchen. He got in big trouble for that one and finally learned that ornaments are not balls to play with.

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas...

It snowed on Friday for a few hours. It wasn't sticking to the ground, but William still enjoyed playing in the snow. It definitely felt like Christmas with the cold weather and snow flurries.

Thanksgiving

As I said before, we went to Houston for Thanksgiving. We went to Jonathan's parents house for breakfast Thanksgiving morning. Here is a picture of William helping make pancakes.

Then we went to my cousin's house and had Thanksgiving lunch with all of my dad's family. I was feeling pretty sick that day so after lunch we went back to my mom's house and I crashed. My mom and Tom were out of town so Jonathan had William duty because I had a killer headache. As I blogged before, it was kind of a rough holiday for us because I was still sick and William was starting to get sick too. There's always next year. ;)

William is 2 years old!!

William turned two years old on November 20th! I am a little late on blogging about it because of my two week illness.

We don't really know a lot of people here in Waco yet, so we just decided to celebrate with our families. He got lots of great presents including a train set, motorcycle big wheel, Elmo restaurant and much more. Since I was out of commission, Jonathan and William went to HEB to pick out cupcakes for his Mother's Day Out class the day before his birthday. Then on his real birthday, we took him to Chuck-E-Cheese. He had a great time, but was scared to death of Chuck-E-Cheese.

William seems to be getting older by the minute. He is definitely trying to show his independence. He likes to push the envelope and has started to throw tantrums when he doesn't get his way. I'm hoping this phase passes just as quickly as it came on. He also talks up a storm. His favorite phrases are, "Watch this mommy..." and "One more treat please?" Most of the time he is a really good little guy. He is still pretty outgoing, enthusiastic and loving. Like most parents, he does or says something everyday that kills me...my favorite is the "I love you too mommy!" I know I have said this a hundred times, but he really is such a joy and blessing.

Two years has gone by in the blink of an eye. I can hardly wait to see how he reacts to Logan and what the next year has in store for us.

Christmas on 5th Street

Last night we went to "Christmas on 5th Street" on the Baylor campus. We met our neighbors (who are Baylor alums) for dinner first and then we all carpooled over to the event. They had live music, a big Christmas tree, hot cocoa, petting zoo, pony rides, nativity and more. It was really cold, so we had to fish out our hats, gloves and big jackets. They said on the news it might snow a little today! We all had a great time and definitely got into the Christmas spirit.

"Big Boy" Bed

We finally moved William to his "Big Boy" bed. We bought the twin bed right after we moved into the new house in September. I have been putting off moving him out of the crib for the past couple of months mainly out of convenience. It's nice to have him confined to a crib, but now the clock is really ticking and we need to get the crib and room ready for Logan.

Tonight we finally put him in the big boy bed and much to my surprise he actually did really well. He seemed pretty excited and laid right down on the pillow. It's hard to believe he is big enough to sleep in a real bed!

Baby Logan

I went to the doctor today for my 35 week check up. Everything is going well and Logan seems to be growing like a weed. He's measuring really big just like William did. As my doctor put it, history usually repeats itself. I of course feel really huge and he's a lot more active than William was. My doctor will probably induce me a little early, so we are expecting Logan around the first week in January (unless God has other plans). We are getting really excited to see what he looks like and welcome him to our little family!

Long Overdue Update

I know I have neglected the blog again, but I do have a good excuse. I have been really sick the past two weeks.

We went to Houston two weekends ago for a wedding. Jonathan was a groomsman in his good friend from college, John Clickscales, wedding. We had a lot of fun, but the following Monday I started to come down with a bad cough and sore throat. I went to the doctor just to make sure it wasn't anything more serious and he confirmed that it was just a really bad cold. Unfortunately when you are pregnant you can't take a lot of cold medicine. The two things the doctor recommended I try made me feel really weird, so I just stuck with a Neti Pot. There is nothing worse than being sick and pregnant. After about a week I thought I had turned a corner, but then it moved into my sinuses. I am still battling a little congestion, cough and headache, but am finally starting to feel better. Jonathan has been a good sport, having to work and play Mr. Mom at home. To make matters worse, William has a cold too (not near as bad as mine).

We did go to Houston for Thanksgiving, but had kind of a rough time. I had a severe headache almost the whole time we were in town and William wasn't feeling good either. Hopefully next week will bring better health. Check back later in the week for more updates on William, Logan and our life in Waco.

We had a very festive Halloween with my sister and her family in Houston this year.


Jonathan carved a pumpkin for the kids Saturday morning. Then my sister toasted the pumpkin seeds for everyone to snack on.

Later that day we went to a Fall Festival at their church. If you can't tell, William was a monkey for Halloween.

Long Awaited Update

Sorry I have been so bad about updating the blog the last few weeks. We have actually been kind of busy. We went to the Heart of Texas Fair, the Houston Zoo Boo, Jonathan's 10 year High School reunion, the Waco Zoo (my sister came in town last weekend), the Baylor Homecoming Parade and Jonathan went to the Baylor Homecoming Bonfire with a Baylor alum friend of his. Don't worry, we are still Aggie fans first...especially since they finally beat Texas Tech last weekend. Instead of describing everything in detail, I decided to just post some pictures. I forgot my camera for all of the activities except the Waco Zoo. The fair pictures and bonfire pictures came from Jonathan's phone.

Fire Awareness Day

Every week William and I go to Toddler Time at the Waco Public Library. It's actually a really great program and William LOVES it. We play, sing, read books, make crafts, etc. Well, yesterday was Fire Awareness Day. I use the term "Fire Awareness" very lightly. It was more like fire-hot, fire-no touch, fire-danger.

The highlight was when the firemen came to hand out hats and stickers and talk to the kids. Then all the kids went outside to climb on the firetruck. William was in heaven, I had to pry him off the back of the firetruck screaming. He insisted on wearing his hat in the car and most of the rest of the day. He wanted to sleep in it, but I had to draw the line somewhere.

I can now add firetrucks to his list of obsessions...cars, trains, mowing, throwing/hitting/kicking balls and firetrucks. At least he's into manly things!
