Happy Easter!

"Jesus said, 'I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die like everyone else, will live again. They are given eternal life for believing in me and will never perish. Do you believe this?' " John 11:25-26

The Easter Bunny made it to our house last weekend! William burst into our room early Easter morning and said, "The Easter Bunny came and left all sorts of eggs...everywhere!!!" I think he is finally an Easter Bunny believer!

We ended up having my Dallas family (Mimi, Aunt Linda, Uncle Steve, cousins Molly and Elizabeth and Elizabeth's fiance Dan) over to our house for Easter lunch. I contemplated buying paper plates and plastic forks, but decided to do it up right. I got out all my china, crystal, polished my great-grandmother's silver, bought a huge ham and deviled some eggs. It almost killed me, but the table ended up looking beautiful and everything felt very festive.

We had about an hour break after lunch before Jonathan's sister Summer and her two boys came over. They spent the night at our house then headed back to Houston the next morning. It was a busy Easter, but a lot of fun. I asked William what his favorite part of Easter was and he said, "having all my family over!"

Preschool Easter Party

William had his preschool Easter Party today, so Logan and I went to watch the festivities. Everyone had a great time but Logan got a little too wild, so we had to step out during story time. Logan started pulling things off the wall and yanked the curtains off the door, I was "that" mom with "that" kid...classic.

It wouldn't be an Easter celebration without William asking more questions about the Easter Bunny. Don't worry, I won't bore you with the full conversation. Basically, he was asking how the Easter Bunny can fit in the house if he is SO big. Then he was concerned the Easter Bunny could get hit by a car trying to cross the road in the dark. He asked if the Easter Bunny drove a car because there is no way he can hop all over the world without getting tired. I finally lost it and said no one has seen the Easter Bunny and to just accept that he's out there and will bring eggs. I thought for a minute that I finally got through to him when he said, "Maybe the Easter Bunny is really a robot!" I give up.

Easter Bunny Update

And the Easter Bunny saga continues....

Since William seems so into the Easter Bunny this year, I thought it would be fun for him to go see the Easter Bunny at the mall. Every night when William goes to bed he asks what we are doing the next day. Last week I got my excited voice on and said, "We are going to the mall to see the Easter Bunny!!" I expected an equally enthusiastic response, but what I got was sheer terror. His eyes got big and he said, "No, no, please don't make me sit on the Easter Bunny's lap. I don't want to see the Easter Bunny!" After some discussion, we decided we would still go and just wave at the Easter Bunny.

The whole way to the mall William kept saying, "I don't want to sit on his lap, I don't want to sit on his lap." We made it to the mall and William and Logan waved at the Easter Bunny. After seeing the mall Easter Bunny, William was even more adamant that he didn't want to sit on his lap. I have to admit there is something very creepy about the mall Easter Bunny. I can't really put my finger on it, but he just looks like you can't trust him.

I wanted to get the kids each a little present from the Easter Bunny, so I have been fishing to see what they really want. William has been talking about wanting a Pillow Pal, but I hate to buy a stuffed animal that will end up in the closet. Now that you have some of the back story, here is our Easter Bunny conversation...

Me: William, you know the Easter Bunny sometimes leaves a little present for you. Do you think you still really want him to bring a Pillow Pal?

William: Sure, but how is he going to carry a Pillow Pal.

Me: Under his arm or on his back

William: But doesn't he have to carry a bunch of eggs?

Me: Well, he has magic, so he makes it all work out. (I think he's on to me, my answer for everything seems to be magic)

William: Do we leave cookies for the Easter Bunny?

Me: Sure, we can make him some cookies. I bet he would love that.

William: But how does he eat the cookies?

Me: Like he eats everything else, he's a rabbit so he eats grass and all sorts of things. (I demonstrated with my best bunny face and paws)

William: But his mouth doesn't open.

Me: What do you mean, of course his mouth opens!

William: No Mommy, I watched the Easter Bunny at the mall and his mouth doesn't open. He just always smiles, it doesn't move. (maybe that's why he looks so creepy)

Me: Um...well... the mall Easter Bunny isn't the real Easter Bunny. He's just a friend of the Easter Bunny. The real Easter Bunny is too busy getting all the eggs ready, he doesn't have time to visit malls. Don't worry, the real Easter Bunny looks like a regular rabbit, just bigger.

I could tell William was thinking it all over, I'm not sure if he bought it. Basically my great idea to take the kids to see the Easter Bunny at the mall backfired and only brought more questions I don't have answers for. I'm really worried about next year when he's a little older and wiser. William is already poking holes in all my answers. Curse you mall Easter Bunny and your permanent grin.

On a side note, Logan loved the mall Easter Bunny. He couldn't get enough of him. Go figure!

The First Day of the Rest of Our Lives...

William had his first "sports" class yesterday. I felt I should document the occasion since this is the first of many, many, many classes for years and years to come.

If you are not familiar with the world of little people extracurricular activities, then I have three words for you...it ain't cheap. I looked into a little gymnastics class for William when we lived in Waco. It was 30 mins, once a week and cost $65 a month! Call me crazy, but I think that is a lot to pay to have my kid jump on a trampoline and try to do a few somersaults. I was pumped when I found the Sports Sampler class at Lifetime Fitness for $35 a month. It's an hour long class, once a week. The lady told me they do balance, speed and agility drills. They also focus on a different sport each week. SOLD!

Side note: I looked into signing him up for community soccer, but you have to be 4 years old before you can play any sports in Allen. I'm a little worried that it's going to be ultra competitive here. There is a slew of soccer fields and baseball diamonds everywhere you look. Keep in mind that there is one high school for Allen and they are building a $50 million dollar football stadium. There is a 10 year waiting list for season tickets to the current stadium. Crazy!

Anyways, William loved his first day. It was only him and one other little boy in the class. I dropped Logan off and went to work out. I could see into the gym from upstairs so I watched William for a little while. It was pretty cute. They dribbled basketballs to music, ran sprints, practiced passing the ball back and forth and kicked a ball into giant bowling pins. It will be interesting to see the boys grow and what sports they gravitate towards.

Rabbit Friend

While we were eating breakfast this morning, a cute little bunny rabbit hopped by the window. William got very excited so we quietly opened the blinds to get a better look at him. William then asked if we could open the backdoor and let him in. I, of course, said no...we do not let wild rabbits into the house. I then went on to tell William that the rabbit was probably sent by the Easter Bunny to check on him and Logan to make sure they were being good boys (like one of Santa's elves). William totally bought into it.

I asked William what he thought his name was. I threw out some obvious choices...BunBun, Jack, Hopper. William thought for a minute and said, "No Mommy, we will call him Rabbit Friend!" Rabbit Friend hung out by the window, eating our grass, for a good while. Then I let Logan out of his highchair and that was when Rabbit Friend made a brisk exit. We decided Rabbit Friend was going to the next house to check on some more kids. I let William go outside to sprinkle some cereal to entice Rabbit Friend back.

I'm not proud of it, but when William disobeyed this morning I threatened to go find Rabbit Friend to tell him. William told me Rabbit Friend was too fast and I wouldn't be able to catch up with him. So much for that, William went to Time Out instead.

We all scream for ice cream....

Jonathan took William to get ice cream this afternoon, just the two of them. William loved getting to ride in daddy's car to go to the "ice cream store" without Logan. Jonathan then took him to a field by our house to play a little baseball. So cute!

Where does the Easter Bunny live....

William has been asking a lot of detailed questions about the Easter Bunny lately. It all started a few weeks ago when he noticed the treat bag in the pantry was getting a little low...

William: Mommy, can I buy some treats at the store today?

Me: No, the Easter Bunny is coming soon and he will bring plenty of candy.

William: Easter Bunny? (he is just now getting to the point where he remembers holidays) Who is the Easter Bunny?

Me: He's this giant bunny rabbit that fills your Easter basket with candy and small presents. He also hides plastic eggs around the house with candy in them and we dye hard boiled eggs for the Easter bunny to hide outside. (It then hit me that I didn't mention the most important part of Easter...the Resurrection). But the main reason we celebrate Easter is because Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead to save us from sin.

William: Died? What is died? (he looked so confused)

Me: Um...just know Jesus loves you a lot.

Had I known William would ask so many questions about the Easter Bunny, I would have brushed up on my bunny folk lore. It's not like Santa where you know all the answers without even having to think about it. Although William did ask me what sound a reindeer makes and I didn't know that one, I think I made a honking noise. Here is our Easter bunny conversation from today...

William: When is the Easter Bunny coming?

Me: In a few weeks.

William: How big is he?

Me: Pretty big, he has to carry a lot of eggs.

William: How does he get in the house?

Me: Um....we leave the backdoor open for him.

William: How does he see in the dark? Does he carry a flashlight?

Me: Yes, he carries a big flashlight with him.

William: I want to see the Easter Bunny.

Me: You can't

William: Why?

Me: Because he's magical and he doesn't want you to see him

William: Does the Easter Bunny talk?

Me: Um...no, I don't think so?

William: Where does the Easter Bunny live, the North Pole?

Me: No...Umm....he lives in a beautiful meadow.

William: Lets get in the car and find it.

Me: Um...it's really far away.... and..... magical..... so..... no one can find it.

With that, I cut off the conversation. If you can't tell, I am a terrible lier! It just goes to show you that kids will believe anything. If anyone knows where the Easter Bunny lives, please share.
